Install guide
Install Playden
What you need, how to copy Playden to your PS5, and how to keep it up to date.
What you need
- A jailbroken PS5. We test on firmware 13.60. Other versions aren’t blocked, but they’re untested.
- A few payloads, loaded after each boot. Payloads are small programs your jailbreak loads. Playden needs:
- kstuff. Without it, every game fails with error CE-100008-9.
- ShadowMountPlus 1.7-beta5fix1 (1.7beta2 also works). It adds each game’s tile to the Home screen.
- elfldr on port 9021. Most jailbreak loaders start it for you.
- nanoDNS, if your console’s DNS is set to 127.0.0.1. Without it, Playden can’t reach Steam.
- A way to copy Playden to the console. There are three, below. Pick the one that fits what you already use.
- A computer on the same network as the PS5.
- A Steam account with games. You can also import Windows games you already have.
Install
Each way copies the Playden app into /data/homebrew/ on the PS5. Your sign-in, settings, games and saves are kept when you install a new version over an old one.
If you use ProsperoStore, a homebrew app store for the PS5, open it, find Playden and press Cross. It installs Playden on the console’s internal storage. Playden’s page in the store is also on prosperostore.net.
Our handy web installer can install the latest version of Playden for you, if the Web File Manager is running on your PS5. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer on the same network, because Safari and Firefox block it. If your browser asks to allow access to your local network, choose Allow.
Download Playden
Download
playden-ps5-<version>.zipfrom the latest release on GitHub. Unzip it into a folder of its own.Copy it to the console
Copy the
FAKE77031folder (that’s the Playden app) into/data/homebrew/on the PS5 with an FTP server such as zftpd and any FTP client, such as FileZilla or Cyberduck. If/data/homebrewisn’t there, create it first. You don’t need to change any permissions.
After you install
Wait for the tile
After about 10 seconds, ShadowMountPlus adds the Playden tile to the Home screen.
Start Playden
Playden offers to download its runtime, the part that runs Windows games. Choose Download, and sign in to Steam while it downloads.
Pick a game
Open the Library, choose a game and install it. When it’s ready, it gets its own tile on the Home screen.
Updates
Playden updates itself from GitHub. It checks when it starts, and you can check any time in Settings › Updates. When an update is ready, choose Restart Playden.
If you’d like to try versions before they’re stable, turn on Beta updates in the same place. If an update causes problems, Settings › Updates can take you back to the version you had before.
If something goes wrong
- Check the compatibility list to see if your game has been tested.
- Read the known issues on GitHub.
- Ask on Discord or Reddit.
